During difficult seasons, Catholic prayer can help you bring your whole experience before God, your fear, your pain, your questions, your desire for healing, and your hope for recovery.
You can pray for healing while receiving medical treatment. You can ask God to guide your doctors while trusting their professional knowledge. You can ask Mary and the saints to intercede for you while placing your ultimate trust in God. You can also pray for the family members and caregivers who are carrying their own burdens.
Some days you may pray with confidence. Other days, your prayer may be as simple as, “Jesus, stay with me.” Both can be genuine prayers.
Do not be ashamed to ask for help when you need it. Allow trusted family members, friends, healthcare professionals, priests, pastoral caregivers, counselors, and others to support you appropriately. Caring for your spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being can be part of walking through this difficult season.
May God grant you strength when you feel weak, peace when you are afraid, wisdom when decisions are difficult, comfort when you are hurting, and hope when the future feels uncertain.
